A Cornwall Wedding Guide from a Cornish Photographer.

Cornwall truly is one of the most magical places in the UK to get married. Whether you picture waves crashing against dramatic cliffs, a quiet village harbour at golden hour, or a cathedral ceremony followed by a riverside pub, there is a corner of Cornwall for every kind of love story.
I've collected a list of my favourite locations that always take my breath away. And, of course, my recommended wedding venues that sit close by each one. You have the choice from beaches to farms, moorland to cliff tops.
If you are planning your wedding in Cornwall or simply want to explore a bit more of the area, please continue onwards...
Watergate Bay, Mawgan Porth and Newquay
If you want dramatic coastlines, huge skies and that unmistakable Cornish surf vibe, this part of the north coast delivers every time. Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth offer the kind of beach scenery that looks stunning in every weather. Cloudy, sunny, windy, calm, it all works.
With Newquay Airport nearby, this area is perfect for couples expecting guests to travel in from London or other parts of the UK. Everything feels easy here. Lots of cafes, modern hotels, cosy pubs, beach walks and cliff top views.
As a photographer, these beaches are a dream. The light changes constantly, which gives you so much variety throughout the day.
Recommended venues: I couldn't just pick one here, so you can start with the choice of two amazing, but very different venues: Watergate Bay Hotel, a beachfront hotel with a stylish, modern atmosphere. If you love Watergate Bay and it's beach, you can get ready, get married and celebrate all in one place, whilst keeping an eye on the kids playing with a football on the beach, which keeps the day relaxed and stress free. Retorrick Mill, tucked just a mile from Mawgan Porth beach. I wouldn't recommend walking along the narrow country lane with your wedding party to get to the beach however there's enough at the mill itself - rustic, characterful and full of personality, ideal for couples wanting something relaxed, earthy and a little more bohemian.
Perranporth Beach
Perranporth has one of the most impressive beaches in Cornwall (3 miles long when the tide is out!) and you can get off the beaten track with a short drive to get to Droskyn Point - with it's incredible cliffs and coastpath, or Perran Sands - with crowd free sand dunes and beach.
It also has a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, and in summer is a busy bucket and spade holiday town. Plenty of accommodation nearby, lots of food options and a beach that seems to go on forever. Evening sunset shoots here are something else entirely, especially when combined with a beverage at Perranporth's pub on the beach - The Watering Hole.
Recommended venue: Anchor Barrow. A countryside venue just outside Perranporth with rustic charm and far reaching views. It feels intimate, natural and very Cornish.
Falmouth
Falmouth has such a unique feel. It is lively and busy, with a mix of maritime lovers and art students, it's coastal without being remote, and it's full of hidden corners (usually with a quirky bar nearby) that look gorgeous in photos. If you love boats, harbours, pretty streets and a slightly more urban seaside feel, this is the perfect area.
The areas around Pendennis Point are beautiful. The seafront is full of character. And even though Falmouth faces north so you do not get direct sunset, it makes up for it with architectural and ocean character.
Recommended venue: The Greenbank Hotel. A waterfront hotel with amazing views across the harbour. It is ideal for couples who want something elegant but still relaxed.
Padstow, Rock and Surrounding Areas
If you are a foodie couple, stop right here. Padstow and Rock have some of the best places to eat in Cornwall. Think seafood restaurants, cosy pubs, boutique hotels and harbour side snacks.
Rock and Daymer Bay are incredibly peaceful, while Padstow brings that charming little harbour scene that always looks beautiful. You can play golf on the best courses in Cornwall, walk along the Camel Estuary or enjoy sunset views from the quieter beaches just outside the town. In the summer this area is very busy, and in the Winter it quietens right down - so depending what you're looking for either could be the perfect match.
Recommended venue: Padstow Harbour Hotel. A luxury boutique hotel overlooking the water.
The Minack Theatre
The Minack Theatre is one of the most extraordinary locations you will ever see. A cliff side open air theatre looking out over turquoise water, carved into the rocks by hand. On a sunny day it feels like the Mediterranean. On a moody day it feels dramatic and powerful.
It is not your typical wedding venue but for the right couple it is unforgettable. Ceremony photos here look like something from a film.
Recommended venue: The Minack Theatre itself. It is a licensed ceremony location and truly one of a kind.
Land’s End
Romantic, wild and full of meaning. Standing at the most western point of Cornwall, with the cliffs falling into the Atlantic, feels symbolic in the best way. Weddings here will always feel like an adventure.
The views are huge. The paths are beautiful for walking photos. And the wind always adds a bit of drama which makes the images even better.
Recommended venue: The Land’s End Hotel. A clifftop venue with incredible views and space for both small and large weddings.
Truro and the Hidden Gem of Malpas
Truro is a small city with a big heart. If you dream of a cathedral wedding, Truro Cathedral is breathtaking. The interior light, the vast ceilings and the sense of history make for stunning photographs.
Just a short drive away is Malpas, which feels like a secret riverside village. There is a cosy pub overlooking the water, boats drifting past and peaceful views across the estuary. Some couples even travel between venues by boat which makes the day feel truly magical.
Recommended venues: Nancarrow Farm is a winner amongst all of Cornwall's (many) venues. It's roughly fifteen minutes from Truro with characterful barns, gardens and a warm welcoming vibe. Pengelley Barn is another great choice, a modern venue set among lakes and beautiful countryside, offering bright indoor spaces and gorgeous surroundings that can be enjoyed in both the sun and the rain for relaxed yet stylish celebrations.
Carbis Bay
Carbis Bay is coastal luxury at its finest. Soft creamy sand, bright blue water on the right day and a long stretch of beach backed by beautiful hotels.
It feels calm and elegant. And if you want a fun idea, the scenic St Ives Bay Line train journey is one of the most beautiful in the country. Imagine arriving for photos in a wedding dress. Absolutely unforgettable.
Recommended venue: Carbis Bay Estate. A beachfront venue with private access to the beach and multiple ceremony spaces.
Camborne and the surrounding areas
OK so stay with me for a minute here because you might think I've lost my marbles.
For couples who want something different, this area offers a mix of mining heritage, old engine houses, moody skies and rugged landscapes. The landscape is just incredible, sat on or aound the granite batholith and dotted with the historic engine houses and wheals that give the area such a unique feel. Photographs you can create here feel timeless, atmospheric and full of character.
This is perfect for couples who want something that feels truly Cornish without going for the typical beach scene (you're still ten minutes drive from the sea if you want both). Availability and prices are very competitive in this area, and there are public transport stations close by for friends and family coming from up-country.
Recommended venues:
Stennack Farm, a rustic barn venue surrounded by open countryside near Camborne. Warm, welcoming and full of character, it is ideal for relaxed countryside weddings.
Mount Pleasant Eco Park, located only 7 to 8 miles from Camborne. This eco friendly venue sits between Porthtowan and Scorrier and offers outdoor spaces, a community feel and the perfect setting for a festival inspired or sustainable wedding day.
Scorrier House, a beautiful historic estate just a short drive from Camborne and well set up for weddings. Surrounded by acres of woodland and gardens, it offers elegant interiors, a stunning orangery style conservatory and a slice of Cornish heritage.
Porthleven
Porthleven is a small fishing village with a dramatic harbour and the most incredible waves in stormy weather. It is cosy, beautiful and full of personality.
Weddings here are always memorable. The harbour offers amazing photo opportunities and the surrounding coastline is wild and impressive.
If you choose Porthleven in winter or storm season, be prepared for powerful weather, but trust me, the photos will be worth it.
Recommended Venue: About 15 minutes drive from Porthleven, Porth-En-Alls at Prussia Cove is an absolute diamond. Secluded, beautiful and very Cornish.
