What To Expect On Your Wedding Day

Planning your wedding day is one of the most exciting and emotional times of your life. After capturing weddings for years, I’ve learned that no couple has planned everything to perfection, and to enjoy your day to the max, you just need to live in the moment (and let your photographer/videographer help you with the rest...)

Here is a simple, honest walkthrough of what your wedding day really feels like - from morning prep to the dance floor.

A Morning Full of Excitement (and a Little Chaos)

Wedding mornings are wonderfully unpredictable. You might wake up buzzing with excitement, you might feel incredibly calm, or somewhere in between. Expect:

• Champagne or croissants… hopefully both

• Hair and makeup starting early or late

• People popping in and out of the room

• People seeing you in all stage of dress

• A lot of laughter

As your photographer or videographer I will gently guide you through the morning, keep you on track, and capture all the little moments you’ll forget even happened.

I’ll Capture All the Beautiful Details

While your bridal party get ready with their hair and makeup, I’ll photograph the details that tell the story of your day: your dress, shoes, bouquet, jewellery, invitations, perfume bottle, the rings - all the tiny pieces you’ve thoughtfully chosen to bring with you.

These shots help build the full narrative of your wedding and look gorgeous in albums.

Getting Into Your Dress or Suit

This is the moment where things suddenly feel real. Whether you’re surrounded by bridesmaids, parents or just one special person, expect a mix of nerves, excitement and emotion.

I’m there to capture:

• The final zip or button

• Reactions from your loved ones

• Those shaky, emotional deep breaths

• Your first moment seeing yourself fully ready

  
  

It’s always a beautifully sentimental part of the day.

The Ceremony

Even if you think you won’t cry… this is the part where nearly everyone does.

You can expect:

• A moment of nervous anticipation before walking in

• A sea of smiling faces

• Your partner’s reaction (always golden)

• Readings, vows, meaningful words

• The Ring and The Kiss!

The ceremony is emotional, sometimes funny, and always unforgettable.

Confetti and Congratulations

Once the ceremony is done, everything suddenly becomes lighter. The confetti moment is joyful chaos, followed by:

• Big hugs

• Congratulations from everyone

• Group photos starting to happen naturally

• Time to breathe, laugh and enjoy being newly married

I’ll capture it all without making it feel staged or rushed.

Your Couple Photos (Relaxed, Natural and Fun)

This is your chance to step away together for a few quiet moments.

I’ll guide you into flattering, natural poses that feel romantic, not cheesy, and give you space to enjoy being together without all your guests watching.

Think of it as a little breather (with a chance for a snack and a glass of water) built into your day.

Speeches, Emotion and Unexpected Laughter

Whether speeches happen

before or after food, you can expect plenty of:

• Laughter

• Stories you’ve never heard

• Love and gratitude

• The occasional roast

• Tears (yours, theirs, and often mine)

If you've hired me as a videographer for your day, this is where I'll set up the audio and a microphone to be passed for each speech.

Golden Hour and Dance Floor Energy

If we've timed it perfectly, we can catch some dreamy dusk photos.

Then it’s straight into:

• Cake cutting

• First dance

• Guests joining you on the dance floor

• Drinks flowing

• Shoes coming off

• Utter evening chaos

This is where you (and your guests) truly let go and enjoy the celebration you’ve worked so hard to plan. I will stop asking for any staged photos at this point and get on to the dance floor with my flash to capture the moments that can be relived when you receive your album.

Expect the Unexpected

No wedding day runs exactly to schedule. Something small will always go off-plan and that is completely normal.

These tiny moments never ruin a wedding. They simply become part of the story and often create the photos you laugh about most later.

You Will Be Surrounded by Love

Above all, your wedding day will feel like a whirlwind of joy, connection and emotion. It will be full of people who adore you, moments that take your breath away, and memories you’ll replay forever.

And my job? To capture it all honestly, beautifully and unobtrusively, so that when you look back at your photos, you feel everything exactly as it happened.
